Incorporated as a city in 1974, Prospect, KY is located approximately 11 miles northeast (up scenic River Road) from the very heart of Louisville. Bounded by the Ohio River on the north and Harrods Creek on the southwest, this upscale suburban town is one of the few in Jefferson County that actually extends into Oldham County.
As recently as the 1960s, Prospect was predominantly farmland. Though in recent years a number of elegant subdivisions have developed, the population remains just over 5,000, and the characteristics that made it such beautifully quiet farm country remain intact to make it an ideal place to have a home.
The community of Hunting Creek was one of the first subdivisions to be developed in the early to mid-1960s. Offering a multifaceted country club, a pristine golf-course, and impressive homes, this community seems to have set the standard for much of the development that followed it. In subsequent years the communities of Bridgepointe, Norton Commons, and Sutherland have emerged, offering country clubs, golf courses, tennis courts and pools, and expansive green spaces and lakes. Much like the homes in Hunting Creek, the homes and estates in these refined communities are tastefully luxurious and range the architectural spectrum.
Prospect is also situated with easy access to Interstate-71. Whether one chooses to take the physically shorter and enchantingly beautiful River Road into the city or the quicker I-71 route, the amenities of Louisville are only minutes away from the undulating hills, the elegant homes, and the peace and quiet of Prospect. With its own assortment of dining and shopping options and a community culture all its own, once one settles in Prospect, one may find less and less reason to ever leave.
